• Early Life & Faith: Saint José Sánchez del Río was born in 1913 in Sahuayo, Michoacán, Mexico, as the third of four children. From a young age, he possessed a deep love for God and a strong devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe.

• The Call to Courage: When the Cristero War began in Mexico to defend the Church against religious persecution, 12-year-old José desperately wanted to defend his faith. He pleaded with his mother, asking: "Mama, do not let me lose the opportunity to gain Heaven so easily and so soon."

• Servant Flag Bearer: Because he was too young to fight as a soldier, he was permitted to join the effort as a flag bearer.

• Steadfast Martyrdom: During battle, José was captured and pressured to renounce his Catholic faith, which he firmly refused. Angered by his courage, soldiers cut off the soles of his feet and forced him to walk through town. Despite extreme pain, José prayed the Rosary, prayed for his enemies, sang songs to Our Lady of Guadalupe, and boldly cried out, "¡Viva Cristo Rey y Santa María de Guadalupe!"

• Saintly Intercession: Martyred at just 14 years old in 1928, José was canonized on October 16, 2016. We celebrate his feast day on February 10th, invoking his intercession for persecuted Christians, children, and youth seeking strength in their faith.
