King Abgar’s Letter: “Abgar Ukomo, the toparch, to Jesus the good Savior who has appeared in the region of Jerusalem: Greetings. I have heard of you and of your healings, how you accomplish them without medicines or herbs… When I learned these things about you, I came to believe one of two possibilities: either you are God who descended from Heaven to do these works, or you are the Son of God for performing them. For this reason, I write to beg you to come quickly to me and heal the illness that afflicts me…”
Christ’s Reply (delivered, according to tradition, by Ananias): “Blessed are you who have believed in me without having seen me… As for what you wrote asking me to come to you: I must first complete all that I was sent to do here. After I have finished this work and been taken up to Him who sent me, I will send one of my disciples to heal your affliction and give life to you and to those with you.”
