Pantokrator is a compound word formed from the Greek words πᾶς, pas meaning "all" and κράτος, kratos, meaning "strength", "might", "power". The image of Christ Pantocrator was one of the first images of Christ developed in the early Christian Church. The name of Christ (Christogram) is written on each side of the halo, as IC and XC.
